All work

A short mockumentary about a missing bike lamp. I worked on the planning and filming, and handled most of the edit: cuts, color grading, sound and the title animation.

Script to set

Bike Lamp is a mockumentary: the story of a missing bike lamp, told in the style of a serious documentary.

We started with a storyboard and a script. To make the interviews look like a real documentary, we filmed them in front of a custom-designed background setup.

In the edit

I handled most of the editing.

DaVinci Resolve's color page with a scene from the film, a node graph and color scopes.

Two tools, two jobs

I learned DaVinci Resolve for the cuts and color grading, then moved to After Effects for sound, transitions and an animated title reveal.

I also experimented with visual effects like crime-scene photos and dramatic lighting to support the story.

Reflection

Learning DaVinci Resolve and then switching to After Effects partway through made this a technical project as much as a creative one.

It taught me to think ahead while filming, with the edit in mind, and to edit with intention, using visual details to support the story.
