All work

A 2D platformer inspired by the jump quests in MapleStory. I designed and built everything in Unity myself, without pre-made assets, and it’s playable in the browser.

The concept

MapleStory’s jump quests are short, tricky platforming challenges. I wanted to recreate that feeling: challenging, but fun.

That depends on three things working together: precise controls, smooth animation and thoughtful level design.

Gameplay: the player character standing on a platform in a level with ladders and pipes.

Making it feel right

I built the game with Unity tilemaps and custom animations. The movement runs on Rigidbody2D and Animator components, and I fine-tuned the collision detection and movement until the controls felt responsive.

  1. 01

    Movement

Walking, jumping and crouching, tuned for responsive controls.

  2. 02

    Climbing

Moving up and down through a level, not just across it.

  3. 03

    Knockback

Getting hit knocks the player back.

Levels, camera and polish

Level design was central to the experience. A Cinemachine camera follows the player while staying within the bounds of the level.

I designed UI elements like the main menu and loading screens too. Everything is built from scratch, with no pre-made assets, so the style and mechanics stayed fully under my control.

Reflection

Fine-tuning collision detection and movement showed me how much small technical decisions change how a game feels to play. Jumper helped me grow as both a programmer and a designer.
